SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco man is recovering from serious injuries after a crash on the light rail line, according to San Francisco police.
The crash occurred Monday evening on the San Francisco light rail at North Figueroa Street and Van Ness Avenue.
San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr says the male passenger was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
He suffered serious injuries to his upper body and head, according, CBS San Francisco.
The San Francisco City Attorney’s office has filed a $1.8 million civil suit against the company that owns the light rails.
In a statement, light rail company Light Rail USA says the company has been working closely with the city on the accident investigation.
It says it “is committed to conducting safety inspections and other required investigations to ensure that the safety and operation of the light transportation system remains as safe as possible.”
The light rail system in the city is a $16 billion transit system with about 20 lines and runs on two-way and two-fare vehicles.
The line is scheduled to open in 2021.
